I wish I was the person I thought I could be when I bought all this produce.

Have you felt this way too?! Often times, Reader, we go to the grocery store, feeling confident that this is the week we are going to change. We pick up produce items that we may or may not have tried before, ready to embark on healthier culinary creations. and then it happens. The zucchini is placed in the bottom hydrator; the realm of (sometimes) no return. Because when you finally remember you have the zucchini, you find a wilted, mushy mess that needs to be thrown out.

How do we prevent such produce casualties and spark that confidence in cooking again?

Here are 3 Tips that can help you!

  1. Choose 2 - 3 recipes that you plan on making this week. By choosing the recipes ahead of time, we know what ingredients we will need to either pick up or check for in your fridge, freezer or pantry.
  2. Make a grocery shopping list. Write down all of the ingredients you may need, and cross off the ones you already have. Bring your grocery shopping list with you or purchase your groceries online. By sticking to the list, it also helps reduce food waste, reduce impulse buys, and stay within a budget.
  3. Wash and cut your fruits and vegetables when you get home. This works really well for peppers, onions, zucchini, squash, carrots, celery. You can wash your apples and keep them stored on the counter or in the fridge. By having them cut into slices or strips, not only do they become an easy, snack option, but also can serve as meal starters as well. Use veggie strips for stir fries or dice them to be added to a slow-cooker chili.
